- Client: European Commission, Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries
- Partner: Grupo Alba
- Duration: 2008-2020
As a partner in the consortium DevNet geie, AEIDL is participating in the coordination of the support unit for FARNET, the European Fisheries Areas Network.
In May 2009, AEIDL, in partnership with Grupo Alba (Spain), won the call for tender issued by DG MARE on the provision of technical support in establishing and coordinating a network of stakeholders involved in the delivery of Axis 4 of the European Fisheries Fund (EFF), which promotes territorial development in EU fisheries areas.
A key task of the FARNET Support Unit is to support the establishment of Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs); local partnerships which devise and implement development strategies aimed at adding value to fisheries products, promoting diversification and alternative enterprises, including in the tourism sector, and strengthening the local skills base and cultural heritage. Between 2009 and 2014, more than 300 FLAGs were established in the 21 participating countries.
To implement this contract, which was renewed in 2015, the two partners have set up a consortium - DevNet – based on the legal form of a European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG / geie). The 10-strong team consists of employees from both partner organisations, independent experts and part-time free-lancers (IT, graphics, event management). Geographical coverage is provided by experts based in each country.
