(11 July 2018) - Noémie Bessette (AEIDL) has identified and analysed 23 community-led climate actions implemented in several EU countries.
Since community-led climate actions (CLCA) are a vast subject with almost as many definitions as initiatives, these 23 actions are just a representation of the movement's wide reach and aim to provide a snapshot of the range of initiatives being carried out on the ground.
CLCA specifically concerns the field of climate change, and actions can be divided into two kinds: mitigation or adaptation.
As for Community-Led Local Development (CLLD), CLCA relies on the assets and strengths of local stakeholders, the synergies of multiple players with their own interests and the sharing of the same ambition.
The key link to all these initiatives is the citizen and the collective dimension of local initiatives. Some are very old and date back to the beginning of the last century, and most have been active for several years. This temporality must reassure us – ‘it works!’ – while also offering a cause for concern: it takes many years to become aware of the issues and to react!
