€4 million for media freedom and investigative journalism

(18 July 2019) – The European Union is publishing a €4.175 million call for proposals for pilot projects and preparatory actions aiming at supporting media freedom and investigative journalism.

Action 1 – Pilot Project: A Europe-wide response mechanism for violation of press and media freedom – This action is expected to support the activities of one consortium of organisations working together to uphold media freedom and safety of journalists in the EU and Candidate Countries. (€1,4 million)

Action 2 – Preparatory Action: cross-border investigative journalism fund – The action will fund grants supporting journalistic investigations involving journalists from at least two countries covered by the action, thereby highlighting issues of common interest to citizen of several Member States and strengthening the European media sphere. (€1,5 million)

Action 3 – Pilot Project: Supporting investigative journalism and media freedom in the EU – The projects to be selected under this action are expected to set up a range of supporting activities geared at providing support to independent, collaborative journalism in the EU Member States and at promoting media freedom across the EU. (€1,3 million)

The call for proposals is open until 27 September 2019.
