(19 January 2021) – The European Commission today launched a public consultation on the future of the Schengen area.

Citizens, businesses, civil society organisations and all other stakeholders interested in the future of the Schengen area are invited to contribute. The consultation will remain open until 16 March.
Its results will inform the strategy that the Commission will present in the first half of this year, which will include initiatives for a “stronger and more complete” Schengen area.
The public consultation launched today complements consultations with members of the European Parliament and home affairs ministers at the first Schengen forum held on 30 November last year.
