FARNET Magazine n°14

Nov 28, 2016 | News

(28 November 2016) – The latest edition of the FARNET Magazine features reports from Scotland, Menorca and Southern Finland, together with articles on the main challenges facing Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs), including: supporting innovation in the local supply chain, and demonstrating results and measuring longer-term impacts of local development in fisheries areas.

The first full year of the second period of FARNET has gone by. It has been a busy time for all involved in fisheries community-led local development (CLLD) during which over half of foreseen FLAGs have already been selected and most of them are expected to be so by the end of 2016.

However, this process has been very different from one area to another. Many FLAGs were created on the basis of existing and well-experienced FLAGs – as was the case for the ESKO FLAG featured in the Finland report. In other places, entirely new FLAGs have been set up, often building on their LEADER experience – as in Menorca. In Scotland, a drive for better coordination of EU funds has led to a new, merged FLAG being created from three FLAGs from the 2007-2013 period.

Everywhere, following the principle of bottom-up local development, FLAGs are deciding on the most suitable strategies and partnerships in order to tackle new challenges and benefit from the opportunities of fisheries CLLD.

This 14th edition is available, online and in print, in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
