(13 July 2015) – A new report, ‘Local Economic Leadership’, published by the OECDLEED Programme, explores the role of local leadership in purposeful local development.
Drawing on previous work by the OECD LEED Programme, the latest independent research by institutions such as Brookings and the World Bank, and detailed case studies of four cities (Amsterdam, Hamburg, Manchester and Stockholm), it examines the leadership premium that accrues to local economies with high quality elected and institutional leaders.
It points to the role of leadership in overcoming deficits that local economies often face: short-termist institutions, fragmented jurisdictions, limited access to capital, and subordinated powers.
