The Rural Pact Support Office (RPSO), managed by AEIDL, has been busy supporting the animation of the Pact, a framework for cooperation between various type of across governance levels to realise the long-term vision for the EU’s rural areas (LTVRA).
In November 2023 the team produced a policy briefing that outlines the key ingredients needed for stakeholders to help make the Rural Pact happen at national or regional levels. The publication is designed to help public authorities civil society organisations researchers, business organisations, and other stakeholders with an interest in rural policies.
The briefing also presents inspiring examples of how these elements are put into practice.
In December 2023, the RPSO also released the inaugural edition of the Rural Vision Magazine. Highlighting the significant progress made in bringing the LTVRA into life. The launch of the RPSO, followed by the establishment of the Rural Pact Coordination Group, has made 2023 a successful year for the realisation of the EU’s rural vision.
The first section of the magazine is devoted to political advances, with the High Level Rural Policy Forum playing a central role. Organised jointly with the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in Sigüenza (Spain) in September, this event helped unite Member States and build support for the EU Council’s conclusions on the long-term vision for rural areas, adopted in November.
The Rural Pact stands out as a framework developed by and for the community, where stakeholders have been particularly active in raising awareness of key rural issues, presenting and developing innovative solutions on the ground, participating in networking activities and making commitments under the Pact. This dynamic engagement is highlighted in section 2.
