Social innovation: 152 examples from France

May 27, 2015 | News

(27 May 2015) – The Macif Foundation has published a guide to the 152 social innovation projects it supported in 2014.

“Nomadic houses” to tackle social emergencies, ICT to keep elderly people in touch, rounding up payments to finance solidarity actions, the first “participative” cooperative supermarket in France… These are a few examples of promising local citizen-led initiatives implemented across France with the foundation’s funding.

In 2014, the Macif Foundation supported 152 social innovation projects in housing, mobility, health, social finance and solidarity in general. The guide presents around 40 of them.

Founded in 1960, Macif is a mutual insurance company based in Niort, in western France. The company is an important player in the social economy, in particular through the foundation it set up in 1993 and France Active, a set of 39 territorial funds which support community development and help disadvantaged people to become entrepreneurs.
