(13 September 2018) – The President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker delivered his state of the Union in 2018 speech yesterday to members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

He presented the priorities for the coming year and outlined his vision of how the European Union can continue to build a “stronger, more united and more democratic Europe”.

President Juncker’s speech proposed 18 European Commission initiatives, covering migration and borders, security, free and secure elections, the European Union’s partnership with Africa, the EU as a global actor, seasonal clock changes and the fight against money laundering.

These proposals aim to “achieve concrete progress for citizens” by the Sibiu Summit in May 2019 and in the run-up to the 2019 European elections.
