(21 October 2021) – The Eurydice network today published its annual report on teachers’ salaries. It shows that teachers’ incomes vary considerably across Europe, generally according to their respective standard of living.

These differences relate not only to teachers’ starting salaries, but also to how salaries develop over the course of their careers.
On average, pre-primary teachers generally earn less and upper secondary teachers generally earn more, although in some European countries all starting teachers receive the same salaries.
In a quarter of education systems, starting salaries (adjusted for inflation) have remained the same or lower over the past five years.
